Carolyn worked as a part-time communication strategist and copywriter, working with key clients such as Amazon, PepsiCo and Probuild, writing safety and other communication materials for internal communications projects.
She was also the in-house copywriter for corporate materials promoting Everyday Massive, including blog posts, social media content, and email campaigns.

Night editor and journalist (2018 - 2020)
Carolyn worked from 4am each day researching news that broke overnight and creating content for readers to consume over breakfast. Working quickly was crucial, and Carolyn created five stories in four hours each day, including images and social scheduling. Carolyn also worked across several of News Corp’s websites on a freelance basis writing op-ed articles for whimn.com.au, news.com.au, Body and Soul and Kidspot. This provided her with a nose for news, as well as technical skills in CMS, image editing and social sharing.
Ella's List
Brisbane Editor (2018 - 2020)
Carolyn managed the Brisbane site of Ella’s List, an online parenting guide. She created the Brisbane site, from content and soft launch strategy to creating 150 pages for launch. Carolyn then ran the regular publication of content on the site, with news, events, and competitions – planning content while working to complement content coming out of our Sydney and Melbourne sites, engaging freelancers, creating images and curating the website.
Mother Goose Media
Editor in Chief (2014 - 2015)
As Editor in Chief for Mother Goose Media, Carolyn was responsible for the strategic direction and quality of three print magazines as well as a busy website and online directory for parents. Carolyn managed a team of writers, editors, digital specialists and admin staff, and was responsible for the overall direction of the editorial arm of the business. The role was hands-on, and much of her time was spent capitalising on opportunities as they arose in new data and technologies.
Highlights include:
Increasing unique views on the Kids on the Coast website by 280% in one year with innovative marketing campaigns and social strategies, and by surveying readers and creating an editorial calendar around what they wanted to see on our site.
Growing social audiences on Facebook and Instagram, and encouraging readers of the print publications to interact with the brand online as well.
Increasing audience engagement and decreasing bounce rate - which led to increased ad spend on the site of 120% in one year.
Champagne Cartel Media
Director (2012 - 2022)
Carolyn started Champagne Cartel as a vehicle to promote her freelance writing business, with the focus of the blog being to share her experiences of being a working mother. The site struck a chord with thousands of women and has gone on to become a part-time business. Carolyn recruited a partner and turned the humble blog into an online magazine with a retail shop and regular events for women.
Running the business has been a great education for Carolyn in engaging audiences, honing social media strategies, analysing data to delivering targeted campaign strategies. She has also developed a large and helpful network of contacts in the online community.

Carolyn worked in various government agencies over the four years as a senior multicultural communications adviser, working on projects and campaigns and providing strategic advice and handson communications support – especially within Indigenous and CALD communities.
