Summary
I’ve taken an unconventional route to brand strategy, working across countries and industries to learn all the small details that make a great brand tick.
I started my career as a lawyer in the US – a fun job that requires deep thinking, problem solving, and creative strategy. Litigation, however, is not really known for its work-life balance, so after a few years I decided to take a break to explore the” life” side of things.
Since then, I’ve studied brand management, learned a lot about sustainability and the circular economy, spent a lot of time in Serious Situations, moved to and across Australia, ran a brick-and-mortar business, hustled with high growth startups, facilitated workshops and large events, wrangled with execs, worked in sustainable fashion, done a lot of creative development, spent a lot of other people's money, spent a lot of my money, hired and fired, been hired and fire, peeped inside the corporate world, contributed to serious business strategies, and done a lot of Pilates.
In doing all these other things, I’ve come to realise that having a broad view is a blessing, not a curse: Litigation taught me strategy and that brands have to communicate and operate authentically or face misrepresentation claims. Running a business showed me that time and finances are finite and your marketing and operational strategies must reflect that limitation. And as a bonus, working across so many industries has made me immune to agency stress.
Experience
Edison Agency
Contract, Account Director (2023 - 2023)
Edison is a part of Rumbletown, a village of thought-leading independent agencies making waves in Queensland and beyond. They work primarily with local Government, including Brisbane City Council, and SME’s around Queensland, and provide a range of services from brand strategy to award-winning advertising campaigns.
As Account Director, I managed all accounts and coordinated multiple stakeholders to ensure the the successful delivery of projects. I also developed the brand and marketing strategy for Edison, including the UX/UI of the current website, copywriting for the website and ongoing social media.
Pixel Palace
Strategic Marketer / Account Manager (2022 - 2023)
Pixel Palace was an award-winning agency working with B2B and B2C clients across a large cross-section of industries from engineering to mining technology. The Strategic Marketer/Account Manager is a hybrid role that effectively serves as a fractional CMO to clients. In this capacity, I:
• Led a cross-functional team to plan and implement all short- and long-term brand activities, including comprehensive visual identities, UX-built websites, digital advertising, and marketing strategies.
• Served as the account manager for multiple clients and ensured smooth and effective communication across all stakeholders in the project – from the C-suite to other agencies, and across all teams.
• Prepared monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for each client, targeted towards the needs of their specific stakeholders (e.g., Marketing, Finance).
• Built and nurtured excellent client relationships that allowed us to grow and continually deliver exceptional results for their business.
• Conducted qualitative and quantitative market research using primary and secondary research methods.
• Facilitated workshops and market research interviews
• Developed the brand strategy (brand purpose, mission, vision, personality, tone of voice, segmentation, targeting, and positioning) and crafted strategic brand recommendations to ensure the brand is rolled out across marketing and operations.
• Worked closely with the design team to ensure the creative strategies were authentic to the brand and stood out from the competition.
Merry People
Wholesale & Marketing Coordinator (2020 - 2021)
The 4th employee to join the team, 10 days before Melbourne went into lockdown. Working from home for the majority of the time, I oversaw all brand marketing activities in the US and Australia and managed the relationships and logistics for our wholesale partnerships in Australia, US, and NZ.
• Developed from inception the influencer and affiliate marketing campaigns. Working with a gifting-only policy, I connected Merry People with over a hundred key, on-brand influencers. These relationships not only led to sales, but also incredible earned press with NY Times, Architectural Digest, V Magazine, and The Strategist.
• Built and managed wholesale relationships in Australia, the US, and New Zealand, expanding Merry People’s presence in Australia from 30 stores to 50 (our strategic maximum), gaining us representation in every State and Territory as well as in New Zealand, and from 1 stockist to 19 in the US across several key markets.
• Participated and represented the brand at digital trade shows (Outdoor Retailer, Shoppe On); oversaw Merry People’s participation and integration into Madewell’s Labels We Love marketplace.
The Other Consultants
Director (2015 - current)
As a small business owner who experienced burnout, I am passionate about helping others grow their brand with balance and purpose. I know first-hand how hard it is to do everything all at once, so I will help you prioritise your energy and focus your efforts to balance short-term and long-term goals. I work with all industries from fashion to safety, and take a big picture view that considers not just marketing needs, but also operational and ESG concerns.
I also firmly believe that knowledge is power. Rather than just do everything for you and max out your budget, my goal is to give you both knowledge and the tools to bring your ideas to life. I want to help you where you need it most at this point on the journey, so we can all grow in sustainable and balanced ways.
Afterall, a good marketing strategy is a good business strategy; and a good business strategy shouldn't harm people or planet.
Mercado32
Owner (2015 - 2019)
With a healthy dose of self-starter energy and “first start-up naivety”, I built from scratch the M32 brand, a consignment store in Perth with 2 retail locations, an online shop, and a vibrant community. As a small business owner living in a new country, I was the CEO, CMO, COO, CFO, and CSO all in one (fun times):
• Managed all business affairs and liaised with all outside providers ancillary to running a small business, including but not limited to accountants, government agencies, printers, property managers, utility providers, and postal services.
• Oversaw all operational aspects of setting up a shop including lease negotiations, interior design, shop fittings and signage, and organising trades installations for both shops.
• Inventory management, including trend forecasting to match current and anticipated market demand, and extensive research on national and international brands, design, pricing, authenticity, and resell value.
• Hired, trained, and managed a team of 5 staff and coordinated external agencies and contractors.
• Built and managed all our digital activations, including the website (Shopify) and our Instagram shop of 4,000+ followers (organic growth).
Through this platform, I was one of the first people in Australia to talk about fashion sustainability, a very early advocate for Fashion Revolution, Veja’s first Australian stockist, and a key educator for many
